Thomas R. Pickering Fellow in Foreign Affairs becomes a Patriot

Melanie Baca-Ortiz came to George Mason with a wide range of experiences – from holding internships at the Consulate of Honduras and the Association of American Residents Overseas to working as a visa specialist at the U.S. Department of State and paralegal specialist at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As a Thomas R. Pickering Fellow in Foreign Affairs, Melanie chose to pursue an M.A. in Foreign Languages in the Spanish concentration to deepen her knowledge of Latin American history and culture.

Frida Valero

Advocating for first-generation immigrants' equal opportunities and stronger global institutions

Frida is a Dual MA in Spanish and Global Affairs and multilingual in Spanish, Korean and English. She is interested in the comparative linguistic study of Spanish and Korean and comparative Spanish- and Korean-language cultural studies. She also aims to increase students' interest in Spanish courses on George Mason's Songdo Campus!
