Turkish opens a window to a vibrant culture that spans Europe and Asia, connecting you to millions of speakers in Turkey and beyond. Learning Turkish gives you access to rich history, literature, music, and art, while expanding your career, travel, and global communication opportunities. Whether exploring bustling bazaars, historic mosques, or contemporary Turkish society, studying the language allows you to engage deeply with a dynamic and influential culture.

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages offers a 12-credit basic language sequence in the Turkish language that fulfills the foreign language requirement. Students with some prior knowledge of the Turkish language who wish to continue the study of the language should take a foreign language placement test before registering. The Foreign Language Placement Testing webpage has further details.

Students are encouraged to explore the many study abroad opportunities offered by Mason's Center for Global Education.
