Why did you choose Mason?
I chose Mason because I had an excellent experience there as an undergraduate. The Spanish courses were incredibly relevant and engaging, and the professors made a lasting impact on me with their expertise and dedication. When it was time to pursue my graduate degree, I knew Mason would provide me with the same high-quality education and support.

What's one accomplishment you're proud of from your time at Mason?
One accomplishment I’m especially proud of is learning how to teach Spanish to heritage speakers effectively. My time at Mason gave me the tools and strategies to meet the unique needs of heritage learners, helping me better serve my students and empower them to embrace their language and cultural identities.

How do you balance working full-time, being a parent, and going to school?
Balancing work, school, and being a parent of three has been a challenge, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. I prioritize my time by staying organized and setting clear boundaries. I make sure to focus on my kids’ needs—both emotionally and physically—while meeting my professional and academic responsibilities. It hasn’t been easy, but leaning on my support system and staying focused on my goals has helped me manage it all.

What advice would you give to someone who is in a similar situation to you?
For those who are parents, working full-time, and continuing their education, my advice is to follow your dreams and stay determined. It won’t be easy, but the effort is worth it. Remember why you started—whether it’s for your own growth, your family, or the students you’ll impact in the future. Take it one step at a time, and don’t give up. The rewards will far outweigh the challenges.
