Prof. Jianfei Chen started her career of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in the summer of 2005 when she participated in the Princeton in Beijing Chinese program. In 2008, she was appointed Chinese language lecturer in the Department of East Asian Studies at Princeton University. She received her Ph.D. in Language, Literacy and Culture Education from Indiana University in 2011. In 2017, Jianfei Chen joined the Chinese program in the department of Modern and Classical Languages at George Mason University as a Term assistant professor. She has been teaching a wide range of Chinese language and culture courses in both Chinese and English, including but not limited to all levels of Chinese language courses; classical Chinese, Chinese theatrical dramas and films; and Chinese modern and contemporary literature. Her research interests include Chinese pedagogy, Chinese Teacher Education, Chinese theater/performing arts in the 20th century, Chinese popular culture, Chinese lexicology and pragmatics.
