East Building - Hybrid
Section Information for Spring 2027

This graduate seminar examines the monster, the specter, and the grotesque in Korean literature, cinema, webtoons, and streaming media as foundational sites of socio-political critique. Rather than treating horror as mere genre fiction, we approach the "monstrous" as a critical category that maps the traumatic terrain of Korean modernity, including Japanese colonialism, national division, the violent state engineering of compressed modernization, and the contemporary exhaustion of neoliberal platform capitalism.
This is a hybrid section with face-to-face meetings and asynchronous online coursework.
