Russian and Eurasian Studies at George Mason University
Unlock a Rich Tapestry
With over 280 million speakers, Russian is the original language of some of the world's greatest literary masterpieces. The official language of Russia and one of the official languages of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, Russian is also spoken across Europe and Central Asia in many former Soviet countries, including Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. These areas of Europe and Central Asia are wonderfully hybrid cultures that blend multiple traditions of East and West.
As a student of Russian Studies at Mason, you will connect with experienced faculty who will guide your exploration of the cultural forces that have shaped contemporary Russia and Eurasia. You will also learn about the greats of Russian literature and be able to read literary masters like Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Pushkin, and Tolstoy in their own language.
Mason’s minor in Russian complements any major including history, government and international politics, geography, theater, communication, and economics.
