Mason Japan Seminar
Energy Saving in Japan: Policy and Lifestyle
Tuesday, November 16, 2010 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM EST
Johnson Center, Meeting Room C
No doubt energy saving is one of the hot topics in discussion on environmental policies as it directly relates to climate change. Although energy saving is often seen to be in conflict with the economy, Japan’s energy efficiency and her gross domestic product (GDP) have stayed at the highest level simultaneously for years. The speaker will discuss how the Japanese government has promoted energy conservation policies since the nation experienced the two oil shocks of the 1970s and what the government is doing now to tackle global warming. She will also explain the principles of harmonious living with nature that formed Japanese traditional lifestyles.
Ms. Umeda is from Japan and currently pursuing a master’s degree in Public Administration at George Mason. Concurrently she is a staff member of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
This seminar (presented in English) is open to the public and admission is free. For more information, contact Dr. Sufumi So (703-993-4822, sso2@gmu.edu).
