Explores Italian cinema in its historical and cultural contexts from Neorealism to the present tracing its origins from and enduring influence on such varied genres as silent cinema, fascism, melodrama, historical period films, commedia all'italiana, auteurism, political films, spaghetti westerns, and detective and crime films.
