Daeyong Kim, Senior Instructor of Korean Studies at George Mason University, presented "Gen-AI Powered Task-based Language Instruction: Engagement, Collaboration and Gen-AI for Classroom Projects" at the 12th MCL and Cultural Studies Faculty and Graduate Student Forum on Wednesday, February 18, from 1:30 to 3:00 PM in Horizon Hall 5225.
His workshop-style presentation explored practical ways to use AI in the world language classroom, focusing on classroom application rather than philosophical debates about AI. The session introduced Suno, a music generation tool, along with a reading activity based on AI-generated texts and a classroom project using AI-generated images. Participants exchanged insights on the pedagogical use of AI in world language teaching.
Mr. Kim has been teaching Korean language and culture since 2006. He holds an MA in Instructional Technology from CSU Monterey Bay and previously served as an Assistant Professor at the Defense Language Institute, where he taught military linguists and developed specialized Korean textbooks.
