The 2026 Chamberlain Memorial Lecture brought together students, faculty, and the broader university community on Tuesday, April 21, from 4:30 to 7:30 PM in Merten Hall 1204.
The event centered on a special screening of The Shaman Sorceress (2021), a Korean animated feature film based on Kim Dong-ri's acclaimed short story of the same name, exploring themes of conflict between faith and tradition. The screening was followed by a talk and Q&A session with director Ahn Jae Huun, moderated by Dr. Young A Jung of the Korean Studies Program.
The Chamberlain Memorial Lecture is held annually through a fund established by the family of the late Dr. Jeffrey Chamberlain, former chair of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages.
Director Ahn, who runs the Seoul-based animation studio Pencil for Meditation (연필로 명상하기), is known for his adaptations of Korean short fiction, including Buckwheat Season, A Lucky Day, Spring Spring and The Shower.
