A review of Dr Peiyu Yang’s monograph Triangular Translation: Gender and the Making of Post-colonial World between China- Europe, and the Middle East, 1880-1940 (2024) was recently published in Modern Chinese Literature and Culture, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to the culture of modern and contemporary China, understood broadly. Dr Mohammad Alsudairi, Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at Australian ational University, called Triangular Translation a “thoughtful, impressive, and often surprising work” that “brings an orienting coherence to the findings of a growing multilingual corpus of scholarship that investigates Arab engagement with China (or vice versa).” Dr Alsudari particularly commended the book’s “capacious” theoretical framing.
