Publication of first issue of Dante Studies as Editor-in-Chief - Kristina M. Olson

Dante Studies, Vol. 142 is now published and available in digital format on Project Muse. It is the first issue under its new Editor-in-Chief, Kristina M. Olson, Associate Professor of Italian. This volume showcases approaches informed by manuscript culture, philology, science, sexuality, medievalism and the reception of Dante the poet and his works in the early modern and contemporary periods. Each essay affords a unique perspective on the diversity of our field today. Anne Leone’s essay, “Preventing Pregnancy: Dante and Medieval Culture,” will be available in open access on Project Muse through early May 2025. Leone’s essay evinces the rewards of historicizing Dante’s poem as we view it through present debates on abortion to challenge contemporary perceptions of the medieval period. Founded in 1882, Dante Studies is the official journal of the Dante Society of America and the premier journal devoted to Dante in the English-speaking world. Published annually and peer-reviewed, the journal features engaging and fresh scholarship relating to Dante's life, work, and continued cultural relevance. Open to all methodological approaches, Dante Studies is a global, multidisciplinary tool for research and reflection. It is published by the Johns Hopkins University Press.
