Kayla Junior will study at Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Korea, as an awardee of the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS)

Kayla Junior, a senior Global Affairs major and Korean Studies minor from Elkridge, Maryland, has been selected for the U.S. Department of State's Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. She will be spending the summer at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, South Korea immersing herself in the Korean language and culture. Kayla has previously studied abroad at Mason Korea and has a strong passion for promoting cross-cultural understanding through language learning and cultural exchange. She is currently the president of the Korean Calligraphy Club, a club dedicated to promoting Korean culture through the art of calligraphy. She is also president of n-Lingual, a club dedicated to promoting language learning and cultural exchange among students here at Mason. Kayla hopes to use her experience in South Korea to further improve her Korean language skills while learning more about the country's rich history and traditions. 

Being chosen for the CLS Program is a testament to her dedication to Korean language learning and cross-cultural communication. She is grateful for the opportunities that wait for her in Gwangju, Korea.
