Professor Carrie Bonilla received 2023 Teaching Excellence Award

Dr. Carrie Bonilla, Associate Professor of Spanish Linguistics, was awarded the 2023 Teaching Excellence Award at the Celebration of Teaching Excellence Ceremony on April 17th, 2023. Hosted by the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning, these annual awards recognize full-time faculty members for outstanding teaching. Professor Bonilla was recognized for her work integrating research on how students and professionals learn new languages in her pedagogical approaches as well as her efforts to encourage students to reflect on their own cognitive abilities and how those relate to their language learning experiences. Professor Bonilla, who also serves as coordinator of the Basic Spanish Program, was also praised for her work designing and teaching a community-based learning Spanish class in partnership with the Mason & Partners Clinics.

Other faculty nominated for Teaching Excellence awards from Modern & Classical Languages were: Nathaniel Greenberg, Helen Guglielmi, Kirk Kanesaka, Dae Yong Kim, Francien Markx, Jihye Moon, Raluca Romaniuc, and Peiyu Yang.
