Granada Semester Experience accepting applications for Spring 2022

This faculty-led program allows students to earn 18 Mason credits while studying in one of Spain’s most beautiful cities, at one of Europe’s oldest universities.

There are multiple courses offered in English and Spanish, meaning that even students who have only completed one semester of Spanish study are eligible to apply, and they can complete the language requirement abroad. At the same time, students with higher Spanish proficiency can take all their courses in Spanish and also have an internship option. Courses are offered on a wide range of topics including Spanish art, film, history, literature, politics, and demography; international marketing; the Arab world; and health sciences. Students also have the option to study an additional language (e.g., Arabic, French, or Japanese) at the University of Granada’s renowned Centro de Lenguas Modernas.

All students on the program take a course on the politics of multilingualism in Spain, taught by faculty director Dr. Jennifer Leeman. This course fulfills the Mason Core synthesis requirement and includes a field trip to Barcelona.

In addition to the field trip to Barcelona, excursions to Córdoba, Madrid and Málaga are also included, as are visits to the architectural and historical treasures of Granada, including the Alhambra, the old Arab Quarter, and the Cathedral. You’ll also have lots of free time to explore Granada and travel on your own, as well as to participate in optional language exchanges with local students and enjoy the delicious tapas for which Granada is famous.
