Granada Semester Experience accepting applications for Spring 2023

Mason faculty-led program open to students in all majors

Granada Semester Experience accepting applications for Spring 2023

Spend Spring semester studying abroad in Granada, Spain, a beautiful and historically rich city.

On this Mason faculty-led program, students live with host families and choose from a wide variety of courses taught by faculty from the University of Granada, one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious universities. Courses on a wide variety of topics are offered in both English and Spanish, making the program extremely attractive for students with many different majors and minors including Anthropology, Art History, Global Affairs, Government and International Politics, History, Linguistics, Marketing, Middle East and Islamic Studies, and Spanish, among others.

No prior knowledge of Spanish required, and if you have completed just one semester of Spanish study (or the equivalent), you’ll complete the language requirement in Granada. In most cases, students at the 300-level or above can earn a Spanish minor on this program, and there is also an internship option for students with advanced Spanish proficiency. If they wish, students can also study an additional language such as Arabic, French, or Japanese at the University of Granada’s renowned Centro de Lenguas Modernas. All students will take Prof. Leeman’s interdisciplinary course on the Sociopolitics of Multilingualism in Spain and Europe, which fulfills the Mason Core Synthesis requirement.

Tuition and program fees on this affordable program cover homestay with a Spanish family (including meals), as well as a four-day trip to Barcelona (including flights and hotel), excursions to Seville, Córdoba, and Málaga, visits to the Alhambra, and Granada’s Arab Quarter and Cathedral. You'll also have lots of free time to travel on your own, as well as to participate in optional language exchanges with local students and enjoy the delicious free tapas for which Granada is famous.

Application deadline: October 10, 2022
