MCL launches online graduate certificate in Spanish Heritage Language Education

Mason's Department of Modern and Classical languages is thrilled to announce the Fall 2021 launch of a graduate certificate in Spanish Heritage Language Education!

In this 15-credit certificate, which can be completed fully online, students will develop familiarity with the linguistic, sociolinguistic, and cultural characteristics of Spanish-speakers in the US; heritage language educational policy and practice; and social justice-oriented, antiracist approaches to teaching Spanish. The certificate prepares aspiring and in-service educators and affiliated professionals to advocate for heritage speakers of Spanish as well as to develop and implement teaching curricula, materials, and pedagogies for Spanish heritage language education.

This Fall we will offer FRLN 575 Heritage Language Education (Tuesdays 4:30-7:10PM) and SPAN 503: Spanish Linguistics for Educators (Thursdays 4:30-7:10PM).

The certificate can be completed as a stand-alone program or "added on" to an existing degree.
