大家好!

My name is Daniela Martinez, and I’m a rising sophomore from Baton Rouge, LA seeking majors in Chinese and Global Affairs and minoring in French and Intelligence Studies. I first began learning Chinese through the National Security Language Initiative for Youth program in 2019, and I’ve loved it ever since! I already spoke Spanish and French, so Chinese poses a new and exciting challenge for me.

During my time at Mason, I’ve served as a Mason Ambassador and a Spanish Interpreter at our vaccine clinic in EagleBank Arena. As for my Chinese development, I’ve had work presented at Mason’s Polyglot event during International Week -a celebration of all the different cultural backgrounds that make up Mason, and I’m working with other students to form a Chinese Culture and Conversation Club!

This summer, I will be continuing my Chinese studies at Tamkang University in New Taipei City, Taiwan with a Critical Language Scholarship. In the future, I hope that I can use my language abilities within the Foreign Service or Intelligence Community to improve American foreign policy and rhetoric towards other global communities.
