Sarah McKinley, B.A. FRLN-Arabic, to join AmeriCorps as Intake Coordinator for the IRC

Following Spring 2021 commencement, Arabic major Sarah McKinley will be starting a position as an immigration intake coordinator with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) through AmeriCorps in Boise, Idaho. She will be serving refugees in the Boise area as they go through the path to citizenship. Her position is the central point of contact for community members seeking immigration assistance through the IRC. After being trained on the basics of immigration law, she will serve in an advisory role where she will walk clients through the screening and intake process in addition to conducting outreach and education on immigration eligibility and requirements. Her background in Arabic will be vital to this position as the Boise area has been welcoming refugees from Syria. Her aptitude in Arabic is also indicative of her capacity to communicate across a broad range of cultures and backgrounds.

 

Sarah will graduate with a 3.82 GPA. She has made the Dean’s List every semester and has twice been recognized with an “Excellence in the Arabic Major” certificate.
