Professor Ricardo Vivancos-Pérez is one of the invited speakers in the two-day symposium on the 17th-century Mexican writer and genius Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz at the University of California Los Angeles, November 22 and 23. He will read excerpts from his latest peer-reviewed article/creative essay “Carta-sueño a Sor Juana,” published in Aztlan, A Journal of Chicano Studies, vol. 44, no. 2, Fall 2019, pp. 173-82.
This symposium gathers top Sor Juana scholars, translators and artists to celebrate her life and works as a dramatic prequel to the world premiere of Juana, an opera about the life and works of the nun composed by Carla Lucero with a libretto drawn from Alicia Gaspar de Alba’s 1999 award-winning novel Sor Juana’s Second Dream.
