The Human Condition in XXI Century Spanish Fiction and Spanish author Jesús Carrasco

As part of our agreement with the Ministry of Culture of Spain, we will be hosting the visit of Spanish writer Jesús Carrasco [Tuesday, March 27 at 4:30 pm, 1017 Thompson Hall], whose first novel, Intemperie [Out in the Open, translated by Margaret Jull Costa], made a grand entrance on the literary scene in 2013. With this novel, Carrasco received the Book of the Year Award from the Association of Madrid Booksellers, the Award for Culture, Art and Literature from the Fundación de Estudios Rurales, the English PEN Award and the Prix Ulysse for the best first novel. He was also finalist for the European Literature Award in the Netherlands, the Prix Méditerranée Étranger in France and the Dulce Chacón, Quimera, Cálamo and San Clemente awards in Spain. His second novel, La tierra que pisamos (The Earth We Tread, translated by Adam Cullen) published in 2016 won the European Union Prize for Literature.
