Sufumi So, modern and classical languages faculty member, recently won the National Council of Japanese Language Teachers Award for the college level. The selection committee acknowledged So’s “long-term dedication and contribution to Japanese language and culture education locally and nationally.” So specializes in Japanese Studies at George Mason University. The official presentation of the award will occur at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages national convention in Boston this November.

The National Council of Japanese Language Teachers created the Teacher Awards program in 2001. The organization gives out two awards - one for K-12 teachers and another for college instructors. The purpose of these awards is to recognize outstanding teachers of Japanese at the national level. These two awards are the only national awards for Japanese language teachers in the U.S.
