This course is aimed at students at the level of intermediate high or low advanced and students should have taken Korean 202 to take this course. In this course, students will learn various topics about Korean cultural practices including the manners that are expected in Korean culture, traditional elements in current Korean culture such as the rites of passage like weddings, birthdays, and funeral practices, and many national and cultural holidays and the ways Korean people celebrate them, Korean food for specific occasions and simple recipes, what Koreans do when hanging out with friends or dating, urban myths they believe or talk about, where Korean people travel, as well as a brief introduction of Korean history and current historical controversies that could be useful to know when communicating with Korean people.
Meanwhile, students will learn and practice Korean language expressions that are useful in specific cultural situations as well as expressions to discuss these topics and will be improving their speaking and listening skills as they engage in class discussions that will be done entirely in Korean.
