Section Information for Spring 2019
This course is designed to prepare students for the professional life - and beyond, through a wide range of readings and authentic audio-video materials that offer insight into the business/hospitality/fashion cultures of the French-speaking world. Students will gain content knowledge in the form of linguistic proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills: business correspondence and etiquette, company structure, relevant current articles and industry trends, business case and brand name analysis. They will also be presented with a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge as they explore French/Francophone companies and engage with entrepreneurs in Paris or in the Washington, D.C. area.
The Experiential Learning in Paris (optional), to take place in May 2019, complements the in-class semester-long readings and activities. This hands-on component of the course is bound to propel students' learning and fluency in French much further by giving them direct access to a unique savoir-faire and the benefits of a true linguistic and cultural immersion.
FREN 390 001 has an optional/required travel component to Paris, France in May of 2019. There will be an additional fee. For registration information, please contact Prof. Raluca Romaniuc (rromaniu@gmu.edu).
