FREN 309 is a 6-credit course specifically designed for French majors/minors who need practice in the written language beyond the intermediate level; it is required for all advanced work in French. It fulfills all or part of the writing-intensive requirement for the French major. Course objectives are to

  • provide students with a full review of French grammar studied at the 200 level and expand upon it
  • expose students to a wide range of written material: literary descriptions, portraits, essays, short stories, film reviews, newspaper articles, professional letters, etc.
  • offer opportunities to improve their written skills.

Development of ability to write on topics of current interest. Readings provide examples of each topic and necessary vocabulary for compositions. Introduces reading strategies and provides practice in reading of different kinds of texts. Limited to three attempts.

Recommended Prerequisite: FREN 202 or equivalent; appropriate placement score; or permission of instructor.
