Major in Foreign Language | Concentration in Spanish

goals and requirements

"You are as many people as you speak languages." This quotation from King Charles V (1500-1558) shows why George Mason University students choose a BA in foreign language with a concentration in Spanish. Spanish students not only develop skills in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish, but also will learn enough about the culture of the Hispanic world to function as an educated person in any of the 20 Spanish-speaking countries, including the United States.

Spanish majors work in a wide range of careers, including business, education, law and law enforcement, social services, health professions, and international organizations.  Mason’s Spanish course offerings reflect this end goal.

The Spanish program at George Mason aims to develop students’ working proficiency in the Spanish language and provide students a generalist's knowledge of the history, politics, literature, culture, geography, and economics of Spanish-speaking countries. Mason students majoring in Spanish often take advantage of the study abroad program with established partners in Madrid and Sevilla, Spain, and in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

MCL also offers a minor in Spanish.
