Bachelor of Arts Foreign Language Requirement for 2007-2008 and beyond
A new course sequence to fulfill the BA foreign language requirement will be phased in during 2007-08. During the transition year, both the old and new sequences will be offered.
During 2007-08, students who place into the 200 level will take both 201 and 202 to complete the foreign language requirement. The final offering of 201 will be fall 2007 (spring 2008 in French and Spanish); 202 will also be offered in spring 2008 (fall 08 in French and Spanish).
A new 3-credit intermediate course, 210 (3 credits), will first be offered in spring 2008. Its prerequisite is the new beginning course, 110 (6 credits), which begins in fall 2007.
For students seeking a 100 level language class, the selection depends on the language. Spanish will continue to offer a 3-credit 105 class for those with previous study of Spanish (2 years or more in high school, or other equivalent experience). 105 will prepare students to continue into 210, thereby completing the BA requirement in a total of 6 credits.
Hebrew, Latin, and Russian will continue to offer the 101, 102 3-3 credit sequence as in the past. Students who prefer a 3-credit program may elect one of these three languages.
All other languages, including Spanish, will offer the 6-credit 110 courses for beginners.
