Rosella Glenn, an alumna doing research while on a Fulbright scholarship in Tajikistan, writes:
“I am still in Tajikistan since September where I will be until August 2009. I am doing well, getting used to the challenging environment and improving my Russian and Tajik. Overall, this is a great experience; I am learning a lot and getting to know Tajiks and their hard-working women who are very hospitable. In a seven million-citizen-country, about one million men leave to work in construction and in fruit markets in Russia and Kazakhstan. … I just finished my 3 months Tajik course and in January I will start my research and go out around the country. I also hope to visit Afghanistan, security permitting. I was invited at an Afghan wedding but due to my first single-entry visa I could not go.
… Soli Nav Muborak (Happy New Year in Tajik)”
