FRLN 330-A03: Grimms' Fairy Tales
(Summer 2017)
Online
Section Information for Summer 2017
In this course, we will read a selection of popular and less well-known fairy tales, compiled and published by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm two centuries ago. What inspired the Brothers Grimm to collect these tales, and why have they endured up to the present day, in literature as well as popular culture? We will use various strategies for interpreting fairy tales and explore types of tales, their structure, function, and possible meanings. To deepen our understanding of the fairy tale genre, we will familiarize ourselves with different approaches developed in the fields of history, folklore studies, gender studies, and psychoanalysis.
FRLN 330 A03 is a distance education section.
