Kluge Fellow Charlotte Rogers discusses how literary works from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Guyana reinvent the myth of a fabulous city of gold, known as "El Dorado," in today's world, and how in the wake of deforestation and settlement in the Amazon river basin, current writers nostalgically mourn for a time when the region was seen as a place of potential wealth and opportunity.
